The puffins thank you for this year!

If you are visiting Runde mountain in mid-August, you might be met with a different sight than earlier in the year. Once the chicks are old enough to leave the nest, the adult puffins also decide to head out to sea, making them difficult to spot.
The other auks have also departed, but it is not impossible to catch a glimpse of the occasional bird. The mountain is certainly not lifeless! The northern gannet is still busy with the final feeding of its chicks, and the eagle has caught wind that food can be found among them. If you walk through the marsh, you might also see the great skua, which benefits from the gannets' activity. Even though the puffins have left their nests, it is important to note that the travel ban remains in effect from March 15th to August 31st. It is also worth remembering that even when the travel ban is lifted, you should still tread with care!
Enjoy your trip!
