The "Plastic Whale" – What is happening to our ocean?

At our Sunday talk on November 13th, Christoph will discuss, among other things, the whale found on Sotra and how the ocean is affected by plastic.

Meet our new researcher at Runde Environmental Centre, marine biologist Christoph Noever.

In January 2017, a 6-metre-long Cuvier's beaked whale stranded on Sotra. It was starving because its stomach and intestines were blocked by over 30 plastic bags and plastic fragments. Christoph was the one who performed the necropsy and discovered why the whale had been so ill.

The whale became world-famous as the "plastic whale" and a symbol of marine pollution.

On Sunday, November 13th at 3:00 PM, Christoph will talk about the work that was done regarding this, and he will teach us more about how marine animals are affected by plastic pollution.
