Hans Strøm and the sea

What did the nature of Sunnmøre look like three hundred years ago? Were there the same fish and the same seabirds? Or has life in and by the sea changed over the last three centuries?

This year marks the 300th anniversary of the birth of naturalist and educator Hans Strøm.
In the book Physiskog Oeconomisk Beskrivelse over Fogderiet Søndmør, beliggende i Bergens Stift i Norge(1762 and 1766), he described the nature and culture of Sunnmøre in great detail.

In this talk, the audience will hear about how Strøm described marine life and various forms of fishing 300 years ago, and whether natural scientists can use this knowledge in today's research. The conversation with marine scientist Nils-Roar Hareide from Runde Environmental Centre will be moderated by Professor Randi Neteland (Volda University College).
