Sunday lecture June 2nd - Martin Eggen // Uten fugler blir ikke livet det samme

We sometimes talk to visitors about how life in the bird cliffs can be an indicator of the state of the ocean.

On Sunday, June 2nd, we will be visited by Martin Eggen, author of the book "Uten fugler blir livet ikke det samme" (2023).

In just a few years, Martin has observed major changes in bird life. Some birds are becoming increasingly scarce, some are disappearing, and others have become more common. Why is this happening, and how is it connected to the world's environmental and climate problems? Are we even capable of understanding and grasping the gravity of this, and what can we do to help the birds?

"No plumage is thick enough to withstand the human
extreme impact on the planet. What we do to
the birds, we also do to ourselves. If we are to solve the problems,
the birds must lead the way. If we take care of the birds, we take care
of most of the world's environmental problems. At the same time, we protect
our only home."

Martin Eggen lives in Lofoten and is a nature conservation advisor at BirdLife Norway. He has worked on a wide range of environmental issues in various environmental organizations for several decades and has in recent years distinguished himself as a clear voice in public debate.
