Welcome to a golden conversation! Author John R. Pettersen will read, tell stories, and show images from his book "Gold - A Shining History."
For thousands of years, gold has been a symbol of wealth. People have been fascinated by this shining metal ever since the first nuggets were discovered. Gold has sparked wars and conflicts, and it has inspired people to set out on adventures.
Why is that? And what exactly is gold? Where does it come from?
Is it true that gold is stardust?
"Gold - A Shining History" is a book about gold treasures, gold mining, and gold robbers—about gold currency, gold art, and the history of gold itself.
The Runde Treasure, the gold recovered from the shipwreck of the merchant vessel Akerendam off the coast of Runde in 1725, holds a central place in the book.
The book is primarily a non-fiction work for children aged 10-14, but it has also generated significant interest among adults.
Author John Roald Pettersen lives in Ålesund and has a background as an educator, journalist, and author. He has written more than 20 books, many of which cover historical and cultural topics.

The café and exhibition are open from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM, serving food, coffee, and cakes.
