March 19: "Life in the deep: Corals and other fascinating organisms in Norwegian fjords"

Marine biologist Ørjan Sørstrønen Vabø takes us underwater to talk about corals and sponges in Norway. Where are they found, what role do they play in the ecosystem, and why is it important to protect them? He will show photos and footage from the seabed, captured during expeditions using ROVs and Blueye drones.

You will also learn about other organisms found in Norwegian fjords, from sponges to phytoplankton and sea cucumbers.

Ørjan is a marine biologist with an interest in everything from plankton to coral. He holds a master's degree in mapping biodiversity in Norwegian fjords. His master's thesis focused on the diversity surrounding vulnerable habitats formed by corals and sponges (such as coral reefs) and the environments in which these habitats are found.
