"The Edible Crab – A Life Story". Sunday lecture with Snorre Bakke

Snorre Bakke is an associate professor at NTNU in Ålesund. His doctoral thesis focused on the biology of the edible crab. Together with two co-authors, he recently published the book "KRABBEN – et biologisk og kulturhistorisk portrett" (The Crab – A Biological and Cultural History Portrait). The book provides a comprehensive look at the life of the edible crab and its significance to us as a fishery and food resource.

The lecture is a story (illustrated with beautiful images) that follows the crab from larva to adulthood. We join the crab in its "youth," its hunt for food, its struggle for survival, and its search for a mate. How we humans utilize the crab through fishing is also part of the story. Along the way, various curious topics are addressed, such as: "How old does a crab get?", "How hard does a crab pinch?", "Does a crab feel pain when boiled?", and "Is it dangerous to eat crab?".
