Puffin safari from Ålesund

Join us for a magical experience where the land meets the open sea. On an evening hike to the bird cliffs, you will get up close to puffins and other seabirds. Our nature guide will provide insight into the unique lives of these birds, local island history, and, of course, the story of the genuine gold treasure from the 1725 shipwreck of the Akerendam off the coast of Runde.

You will travel by express boat and private bus to the Runde Environmental Centre. There, you will be met by a skilled nature guide who will give you a tour of our exhibition, followed by the film "Silver of the Sea," a fantastic nature documentary about the puffins and the ecosystem they are part of here on Runde. The tour is followed by dinner before we head up to the bird cliffs.

The hike up to the bird cliffs takes 45 minutes. Along the way, there is plenty to see and experience, and we will make several stops. Once at the top, there will be plenty of time to sit and enjoy the view and the magnificent seabirds.

If you are lucky, you will end the trip watching the sun set into the ocean while puffins swarm in the air above your head.

After the tour, the bus will take you safely back to the express boat pier in Hareid for your return to Ålesund.

Practical information

The trip starts from Ålesund with the 15:30 express boat to Hareid. In Hareid, you will be met by West Auto, who will transport you to Runde.

After the mountain hike, you will be transported back to the express boat in Hareid. Arrival in Ålesund at 23:15.

• Admission to the exhibitions at the Runde Environmental Centre and a screening of the nature documentary "Silver of the Sea" from the Sunnmøre coast

The trip does not include

• Boat transport from Ålesund to Hareid and return from Hareid to Ålesund. Tickets are purchased on board and do not need to be booked in advance.

Dress according to the weather. We recommend waterproof shoes, a windbreaker and/or raincoat, and warm clothing. It can get cold on the mountain in the evening.
