Trip to Runde Lighthouse

There is something admirable about lighthouses—what stories do they actually hide? Round lighthouses stand in the middle of the open sea, among cliffs shaped by the rugged coastal landscape and the Atlantic Ocean stretching out just beyond.

Gain insight into the history of Runde Lighthouse

On the trip out to Runde Lighthouse, our nature guide shares stories from the island, including the discovery of a lost treasure and the unique nature of Runde. You will get a deep dive into lighthouse history and the island's natural wonders. The tour begins with a meeting at the Runde Environmental Centre. Inside the centre, you will be given a tour of the exhibition, where the nature guide will tell you about the birds, coastal ecology, and a legendary treasure found right by the lighthouse. After the exhibition tour, we head up into the mountains. Outside, you will experience the sheer cliffs, see the nesting grounds of the seabirds that inhabit the island, and view the magnificent lighthouse.

Experience a side of Runde that not everyone gets to see

Along the way, stories will be told about the lighthouse keepers and builders from Sunnmøre. We will enjoy lunch with an ocean view before heading back. If you want to hear these incredible stories while seeing the most beautiful spots on Runde, this is the tour for you. The trip is also excellent outside the summer season, allowing you to see a side of Runde that few have the pleasure of experiencing.

Included in the experience:

- Guided tour with a nature guide

- Packed lunch and hot drinks

Practical information

Since the tour takes place in the mountains and follows trails of varying quality, we recommend sturdy shoes with ankle support. Western Norway is a place with harsh weather, so it is wise to bring waterproof outerwear and practical, warm clothing. We also encourage you to bring a dry change of clothes and shoes.

In addition, you should bring:

- Hiking backpack (20-40 L)

- A water bottle

- Hat and gloves if it is cold

- Camera

The tour can be tailored for groups upon request and can be booked all year round. Send an email to booking@runde.no or call +47 700 80 800 for more information.
