Puffin

The puffin is the celebrity of the bird cliffs and the reason many people come to Runde. It is the most numerous bird on Runde and can be seen during the breeding season, which lasts from April to the beginning of August. Puffins dig burrows in grassy slopes to lay their eggs.

The puffin is an easily recognizable bird with its colorful beak and bright orange feet. It is not just its appearance that makes it unique. Every evening during the breeding season, it can be seen swarming and fluttering about in Lundeura. At times, it can be difficult to spot on the mountain during the day, but if you take an evening hike up the mountain, you are almost guaranteed to see it.

Like other auks, the puffin is a very skilled swimmer and can dive up to 60 meters while holding its breath for over a minute!
